International Compost Awareness Week Poster

Project Type: Competition Entry - Poster Design

Date: October 2024

The theme for the 2025 International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) Poster Contest is "Sustainable Communities Begin with Compost!".

My concept for this design draws inspiration from Andy Griffiths' and Terry Denton's Treehouse children's book series. The focal point of the design is a large treehouse, inhabited by a community of personified animals living in harmony with each other and their environment. These animals are all working together to care for the tree that provides their home so they can continue to grow and thrive together. The roots of the tree are growing amongst composted soil, depicting that the community is thriving from the provided nutrients from the act of composting.

About the Contest

Every year since 1997, The International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) Committee have run the global ICAW Poster Contest to provide anyone aged 14 or above the opportunity to design a poster embodying the chosen theme.  The 2025 contest aims to raise awareness about the role and importance of composting, and how all kinds of communities can grow and thrive from it. The winning designer will be awarded with $500 USD and their poster will be chosen to represent ICAW 2025, taking place from May 4 – May 10.
